#100daysofxstitch - spoonie rules

9/6/2015

If you've been following my #100daysofxstitch daily cross stitches you'll have noticed they made an abrupt stop a few weeks ago.  What can I say, life got hectic & M.E fought back.

I'm actually really proud of how much I've managed to do these last few weeks whilst moving my best friend into my house.  I'm not good with change when it's focused on my little nest & jeez, there's been a lot of change!  I'm trying to keep reminding myself that after putting up with my house looking like I'm losing at Jumanji for the last month or so it'll be better than ever once we're all sorted.  I now have a decorated & carpeted bedroom - given I moved in to magnolia, magnolia & more magnolia 4 years ago it's about bloomin' time I put my stamp on the place.  I can honestly say it's growing to be home, rather than my shiny new house.

I digress.

As you know by now change plus physical & mental exertion for me equals a fair amount of ZombieDonna.  Mmmmm, braaaiiiiiins.

Back to #100days...

I've been designing patterns each day, well most days throughout the process but just haven't had chance to actually stitch them between being mega-busy & dead to the world.  I've come to the decision, therefore, that I'll be carrying on with the project but spoonie style - in my own good time!

I'll do 100 days, they just won't be consecutive days all the time.  I would have finished the project on the 14th of August by doing one each day so I guess this is turning into my own little experiment to see just how much I get done when I'm gentle on myself working around my health rather than against it all the time.

So, keep your eyes peeled for more #100daysofxstitch & remember, if you subscribe to the newsletter all of the charts will be available to download for FREE.  :D

Thanks for reading

The 100 Day Project

6/5/2015

I've decided to join in with the 100 day project.  Devised by the folks over at The Great Discontent it's pretty much what it implies, a project spanning 100 days.  They explain it as such:
What Is the 100-Day Project?
It’s a celebration of process that encourages everyone to participate in 100 days of making. The great surrender is the process; showing up day after day is the goal. For the100-Day Project, it’s not about fetishizing finished products—it’s about the process.

How does it work?

It explains in more detail in the link up there^
but here's the short version.
You sign up to their newsletter & follow their Instagram accounts, these give you ideas, suggestions, ways to keep going as well as being able to see what they're doing in their own project(s).
You choose an action to carry out each day for 100 days, starting on April 6th (yeah, I'm arriving more-than-fashionably-late to this party but that's allowed.)
You post each day on Instagram using #the100dayproject as well as your own unique tag, so people can choose to see all of everyone's contributions or just yours.
You announce your project (like I'm doing now), then you just get stuck in, posting up your progress in picture form every day for people so see.

...that's what my unique hashtag will be for the project, so as you've probably figured out, my 100 days will be full of cross stitch.

As you can imagine you can't really do a whole major project each day so I'll be keeping them small for the most part & doing some projects that link together to form a bigger picture.  I don't want to impose too many rules on myself & make this any harder than it already is...we all know my health isn't entirely predictable & a tiny cross stitch is, I'm hoping, still possible most days.  The good news as well is, none of these charts will be for sale in the shop so copyright isn't a worry & I can do a few cheeky fan-art pieces if the urge takes me.

So that's it really, now you know.

Oh, one last thing to tell!
Mailing list subscribers will get access to the pdfs of any patterns I make, so if they want to recreate them at home they can do, for free!

So, if you've still not signed up then scroll down to the bottom of this page, or any page on MissRed.co.uk & get your name on that list!

Gotta dash, cross stitching to do!

Quickie post today :)

I've just added a little gizmo on my blog page...I do love a good gizmo ;)

It looks like this >>>>

and it's just down the right hand side of this blog page.

Obviously all of you fabulous, gorgeous, lovely people are already showing your support by subscribing to my newsletter (little linky there for you if not :p ) but this rather clever little gizmo enables you to subscribe to my blog too!

Never miss any of my wafflings again...I mean, erm...fascinating works of literature!
OK, OK, something in the middle, but it's never dull, that's for sure!

Pop along & stick your email in the little box then you'll never miss a post again AND you'll make me smile.  There are no downsides, have at it!

Miss Red x

P.S:  I'm aware I may have overdone it a bit with all the exclamation marks but I've been trying to find some way of enabling people to subscribe to my blog for a while & just found this so I'm quite excited!

P.P.S: G'wan, g'wan, g'wan...

Challenging Miss Red

Well hello there gorgeous people, it's been a while.  Any ideas who pinched January?  Cor, it's flown by here at Miss Red HQ & just been super hectic.  How's it gone for you?

I guess that's my lame excuse for not writing in my blog for a whole month, naughty me!

Anyhoo, I've been tinkering a bit with the website so hopefully it's a little bit smarter, a bit easier to get around & it's also got a few new bits.

If you're thinking quit waffling Red, what's this challenge business about in the title? then that's this bit here.  Loads of times when I was searching the internet for cross stitch kits to buy (before I started making my own) I'd find myself settling for kits not really what I was after just because I'd spent so long looking that I'd decided to give up & just buy something, anything.  Well now, if you have an idea but the design you're after isn't anywhere to be found you can pop over to this page & Challenge Miss Red.

All you have to do is dream up a pattern you want to stitch then fill in the contact form & tell me what you want, and then...*insert drum roll here*...I'll create it!  You can describe it in words, you can doodle a design & scan it in or just take a photo & upload that to the form then it'll soon become the cross stitch chart you were looking for.

Once it's done I'll pop up a preview on the website & a link so you can buy it for a bargain price.  If you like it & want the chart you buy it, if you decided in the meantime you want something else then you don't have to...but it'll stay on the website available for other people to buy.

A further option you can use the same form for is personalised or bespoke patterns.  If you want something that's personal to you & not for just anyone to buy - such as something with your name on or photographs - you can order this in the same way, just describe what you want & check the bespoke box on the form.

So, why not get those cogs whirring & dream up a design, then Challenge Miss Red!

Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to meeeeeee...

Ok, not me exactly but it's a year ago I registered Miss Red as a business.  Wow, how fast has this year flown by?!?

I have to say a huge thanks to all my 577 followers on FB, the 363 on Twitter (which I'm really chuffed with because I still don't really know what I'm doing on there) and followers elsewhere in that big old land of social media (follow links top right ;)...not forgetting, most importantly, you fantastic customers!!!

It's been a tough year of ups & downs, health issues have done all they can to trip me up whenever possible but I'm more motivated now than ever.  I'm sure I'll still have my "what am I doing?" moments occasionally but I've learned a lot this year...yup, mostly by making mistakes but it's a lot of useful lessons I'll take with me into the future.

So, come on year 2, bring it on!

Zombies & freebies!

11/9/2014

Coo, getting back into the swing of things after a couple of days stuck in bed is always difficult & that was a really horrible few days.  Changing pain meds is not the ideal thing to be doing whilst trying to run a business!  I shall mostly be working in zombie mode today so forgive me if I seem a bit out of it.

Anyway, more importantly, free stuff!  If you've been reading my newsletters you'll know that I'm about to stop making them automatically post to Facebook & Twitter so that subscribers get that little bit extra.  This month I'll be doing my first newsletter prize draw, anyone who subscribes to the newsletter AND opens the email will be automatically entered into the draw each month with various different prizes on offer, from cross stitch kits to supplies, embroidered items, clothing and, well, whatever I can think of really!  The newsletters will also include subscriber only discounts and pre-sales, so if you've not signed up already, what are you waiting for? Sign up now!

Just because I'm feeling extra generous today, I'll let you in on the secret, the prize for the September draw will be this cross stitch kit, a fab Christmassy kit featuring the artwork of Heidi.  I really enjoyed stitching it & I'm sure you will too :)

So, join my mailing list!
