![]() This last week or so I've been working on a commissioned corset for a friend, a black corset with silver flames, to match her New Rocks. With a deadline of the 17th she'd asked me to make this corset with over a fortnight to go until it would be collected. This is plenty of time to make a corset usually - I've made a few in a day & most in two sewing days, the time consuming part being ordering pre-cut bones once I know what size they need to be then waiting up to a week for them to be delivered. These days I have bulk rolls of boning & just cut off what I need then add end caps. It's a little extra work but saves a whole heap of time & money, slim-lining the whole corset making process & putting the schedule back in my own hands. Of course, as soon as my M.E heard I was going to be busy it decided it was having none of it! The first week was spent entirely in bed apart from my birthday* when I managed to get out of the house for a few hours.** Week two started off catching up on all the Ebay & Etsy orders, making sure everyone who'd ordered got their goodies in a reasonable time. Of course, once I'd made, printed, cut, packed & posted I was yet again no good to anyone & stuck in bed. As ill as I was I knew I had that deadline looming so forced myself to the sewing machine with the help of a few extra drugs & Adam supplying me with tea & maybe a few cheeky beers. For a limited time only, I'd managed to fight back against the M.E & get things done. Done in smaller chunks of time than would have been optimal & whilst feeling lousy, but in my eyes I won. I was just completing the last bit of hand stitching when my customer arrived to pick it up. Take that M.E! I know there'll be payback but you know what, that's fine, because for once it's on my terms. * 21 again! :p **We had a lovely meal at Wong Ting, thanks for asking ;) Miss Red xIf you've been following my #100daysofxstitch daily cross stitches you'll have noticed they made an abrupt stop a few weeks ago. What can I say, life got hectic & M.E fought back. I'm actually really proud of how much I've managed to do these last few weeks whilst moving my best friend into my house. I'm not good with change when it's focused on my little nest & jeez, there's been a lot of change! I'm trying to keep reminding myself that after putting up with my house looking like I'm losing at Jumanji for the last month or so it'll be better than ever once we're all sorted. I now have a decorated & carpeted bedroom - given I moved in to magnolia, magnolia & more magnolia 4 years ago it's about bloomin' time I put my stamp on the place. I can honestly say it's growing to be home, rather than my shiny new house. I digress. As you know by now change plus physical & mental exertion for me equals a fair amount of ZombieDonna. Mmmmm, braaaiiiiiins. Back to #100days... I've been designing patterns each day, well most days throughout the process but just haven't had chance to actually stitch them between being mega-busy & dead to the world. I've come to the decision, therefore, that I'll be carrying on with the project but spoonie style - in my own good time! I'll do 100 days, they just won't be consecutive days all the time. I would have finished the project on the 14th of August by doing one each day so I guess this is turning into my own little experiment to see just how much I get done when I'm gentle on myself working around my health rather than against it all the time. So, keep your eyes peeled for more #100daysofxstitch & remember, if you subscribe to the newsletter all of the charts will be available to download for FREE. :D Thanks for reading Miss Red x |
